About Casey
Casey Ditzel is a versatile broadcaster, content creator, and media professional currently serving as the inaugural voice and Broadcasting and Communications Manager of the Greensboro Gargoyles, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. Over the past six seasons, he has built an extensive resume in hockey broadcasting through NCAA Division I coverage on ESPN+ and professional hockey storytelling in one of the nation’s newest hockey markets. Casey has broadcast more than 200 hockey games, including NCAA Tournament appearances, ECAC Tournament coverage, and the inaugural season of professional hockey’s return to Greensboro after a 20-year absence. Whether calling a nationally streamed playoff game, hosting a live intermission segment in front of 16,000 fans, or producing behind-the-scenes digital content, Casey brings energy, professionalism, creativity, and storytelling to every platform he touches.
In Greensboro, Casey has played a key role in building the Gargoyles brand from the ground up through broadcasting, digital media, fan engagement, and community outreach. In addition to calling every game on WCOG Radio and ECHL broadcasts, he helped create innovative content series and live entertainment features designed to connect in-arena fans with streaming audiences. His work includes hosting the weekly live radio show “Inside the Perch,” producing player and coach interview series, creating viral social media content, coordinating media relations, and helping shape the overall identity of the Gargoyles experience. Casey’s versatility has allowed him to contribute far beyond the broadcast booth, serving as a visible and energetic ambassador for hockey’s growth in Gate City.
Prior to joining the Gargoyles, Casey spent six years covering Clarkson Athletics, gaining experience broadcasting seven different sports including men’s and women’s hockey, basketball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, and softball. His broadcasting journey began at WTSC 91.1 FM, Clarkson’s student-run radio station, where he became Sports Director as a sophomore. By his junior year, he was contracted by B99.3 FM and joined the ESPN+ television crew covering Golden Knights Hockey. He served as the lead play-by-play announcer for Clarkson Women’s Hockey while also contributing color commentary and bench interviews for the men’s program. Casey quickly became known for blending detailed preparation with personality-driven storytelling, creating broadcasts that connected deeply with both passionate fans and first-time viewers.
Casey earned his Master of Business Administration from Clarkson University after graduating with merit in Communication, Media & Design. His graduate education strengthened his background in marketing, leadership, analytics, and strategic communications, complementing hands-on experience in social media management, graphic design, video production, podcasting, public relations, and live event hosting. Throughout his career, he has embraced opportunities across multiple disciplines of sports media, building a modern skill set tailored to the evolving landscape of professional sports entertainment.
Beyond play-by-play broadcasting, Casey has launched and led several hockey media initiatives that reflect his passion for audience engagement and creative storytelling. From 2022 to 2024, he hosted The Golden Knight Round Table, a podcast focused on Clarkson Hockey through interviews with players, coaches, and alumni. In 2024, he founded The Fifth Liners Podcast, bringing together rising sportscasters to discuss hockey while connecting with industry professionals from the NHL, PWHL, and NCAA ranks. More recently, he partnered with former NHL Senior Manager of Hockey Analytics Timo Seppa on The Frozen Edge, a short-form hockey analytics and betting content platform focused on making advanced hockey insight accessible and entertaining for modern fans.
In addition to his media career, Casey served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Clarkson Men’s Golf Team after four years as a student-athlete, including two seasons as Team Captain. In that role, he spearheaded Clarkson Golf’s annual “CU Give Day” fundraising campaign, leading the program to a 479 percent increase in donations and raising a record-setting $18,650 in just three days. His leadership experience across athletics, media, and live entertainment continues to shape his goal of growing the game of hockey through innovative storytelling, fan engagement, and community connection.
